
Casar is located in Cleveland County at the base of the South Mountains. The population according to a 2005 census was 311 residents and has a population density of 178 people per square mile. The elevation is 1125 feet.

Casar was incorporated three times. In 1890, known as Race path, the village enjoyed the services of its first post office. Race Path became the incorporated town of Caesar in 1894. In a recent 1973 charter the "e" was officially dropped from the name "Caesar" and the town was incorporated as "Casar"--even though the town had long been known as "Casar".
The Upper northern section of Cleveland County encompasses a large portion of the South Mountains. The only mountain range in the United States which runs east to west. The South Mountains cover about one hunderd- thousand acres. The mountain range is approximately twenty miles from the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains.
The county seat is located in Shelby. Located approximately 20 miles south of Casar it offers several hotels and eating establishments.
Cleveland County, home of Casar, was established in 1841. The county was named after Col. Benjamin Cleveland, a patriot commander at the battle of kings Mountain.
Cleveland County has several notable annual events. The Cleveland County Fair is held for 10 days usually the end of September into the first week of October.
Shelby is the home of the famed Shelby Hamfest. Also known as "The Grand-Daddy of them all" this event is held every Labor Day weekend at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds.
In the near-by town of Belwood there is a good old-fashion tractor pull that is held the second weekend in August.
